Mr. Dowling had had a
varied and interesting career. For ten years during the Cold War
he was a Marine officer, serving with both the infantry and the
artillery. Prior to that he had been a policeman. In the business
world, Mr. Dowling has been a sales manager, marketing executive
and a management consultant. He has lived in a number of places
in the U.S. and has traveled extensively. He presently conducts
creative writing workshops and he writes novels. Military history,
and particularly Marine Corps history, is his hobby. He belongs
to the Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Association. Extensive
research and experience in the field lends realism to his characters
and scenes.

| He is a member and
past director of The Florida Writers Association and is a frequent
contributor to their quarterly publication, The Florida Palm. He
is also a member of the Space Coast Writers Guild and Authors For
Charity. His novel To
Keep Our Honor Clean , won the Grand Prize in Gardenia
Press’ Novel competition for 2001, and sold more than 1000
copies in the first year. It is the first of a planned four book
series on the Korean War. The second novel in the series, The
Mad Dogs was released in March 2005. It was the second place
winner in The Florida Writer Association novel contest for military
fiction 2004 and honorable mention in the JADA Press International
competition in 2005. The Third novel in the series, The
First to Fight, is available for publication.
The Hammer of God, a
Story of Arthur, a sweeping saga of King Arthur,
the Dark Ages and a people’s fight to survive is also
offered for publication. An excerpt from The First to Fight appeared
under the title Vicki and Clyde, in an anthology called Treasures:
Celebrating Florida Authors, from Inkling Press. Mr. Dowling’s
work has also appeared in a number of other collections, including The
Florida Palm, The Older We Were, The Better
We Get and
Korea : The Forgotten War.
He and his wife Arlene have lived in the Orlando
area since 1985. He is married and is the father of two sons and
a daughter. He also has four grandchildren. |
